Pipe Welding 6G Certification

6G pipe welding certification tests the welder's ability to weld in all possible positions. Although obtaining 6G certification will qualify you to weld in all positions, it is recommended that you first work on the basics before rushing to complete 6G certification.

  1. Welding Positions

    • Welding certifications are categorized according to the position the welder must be in to complete the job. 6G welding is done on a pipe that stands at a 45-degree angle and is fixed, so the welder cannot move it. This requires the use of a variety of welding positions.

    6G

    • Because of the location of the pipe, 6G welding tests the welder's ability to weld in all positions. This means that 6G welding certification qualifies the welder to weld pipe and plate in all positions. Of all welding certifications, it is considered the most difficult to obtain.

    Certification

    • There are a number of well-established organizations that provide 6G welding certification. However, since each certification provider has its own welding standards, the best approach is to study the standards provided by one particular organization, and then attempt certification with that organization.
