Purpose of Technical Training
Technical training refers to the teaching of detailed, specific skills necessary to perform a work task or function. This type of training can be used in almost any setting, but frequently refers to skill-building in information technology and vocational settings.
-
Information Technology
-
The purpose of technical training in information technology settings is to teach individuals how to use various computer types, programs and equipment. With the ever-changing nature of modern electronics, training in this area should be considered an ongoing necessity, and not a one-time learning experience.
Vocational
-
The purpose of technical training in vocational settings is to teach individuals to do work such as auto body repair, hair styling and construction. Electricians, plumbers and appliance repair persons also often have technical training as part of their vocational background. Schools that specialize in these areas typically offer two-year degrees that are required by employers in the worker's chosen field.

Considerations
-
Technical training can be used in almost any area where hands-on skills are required, or learning material would be difficult to do in book or oral form alone. Recreational applications include hobbies such as glass work, pottery-making or model-building. Technical computer training classes are available that specifically target seniors, or those who have difficulty learning electronic applications.
