Help for Teenagers Failing at School thumbnail
Help is available for teenagers failing in school.

While some teenagers breeze through school without a problem, some teenagers struggle to get a passing grade. Failing in school can be very stressful, but there are things the parents can do to help the teenager get back on the right path.

  1. Underlying Problems

    • Talk to the teenager to get a gauge on what may be bothering him or her. If a student who was passing is suddenly failing, an underlying problem could be the reason for the plummeting grades. Stress, depression, bullying are all possible reasons for failing.

    Options

    • Talk with the teen's teacher to find out exactly why the student is failing; it could be lack of focus, not doing assigned homework or simply not comprehending the subject matter. In some cases, tutoring is an option. In other cases, summer school is an option. This will give the student the opportunity to focus on only the failing subject.

    Teenagers in College

    • Transitioning from high school to a college setting can be an overwhelming.Tell your teen to contact his or her professor for help, if he or she continues to struggle academically.
