What Machine Lets You Record Digital 8mm to DVD?
Digital 8mm camcorders can still produce high-quality video and audio recordings, and transferring those recordings to DVD creates a long-lasting digital copy and allows you to view them from different sources. This process can be done by utilizing a device that provides this capability.

DVD Player/Recorders
-
Certain DVD players also are designed to be DVD recorders and feature a composite RCA video/audio input for connecting camcorders and other devices, with some offering a digital video (DV) input as well. These recorders can be stand-alone components or combined with a VCR to record to and/or from VHS as well. Connect the camcorder to the recorder using the selected output and cable, set the recording settings, start playback on the camera and begin recording.
DVDirect Recorders
-
Other DVD recorders, including Sony's line of DVDirect Recorders, are designed for recording only, and offer a variety of inputs (including RCA and DV) to connect video sources such as a Digital 8mm camcorder. Connecting and recording to this type of recorder is the same as with a DVD player/recorder.

Computers
-
A computer with video editing software and DVD-ROM drive can also be used to transfer digital 8mm tapes to DVD. Connect the camcorder to the computer's DV/IEEE 1394 (Firewire) input, open the editing software and convert the tape to a digital video file, then use the same software or a different program to burn that digital file to a DVD.
