Do Aboveground Pools Ruin the Grass?
An aboveground pool can turn your backyard into a mini vacation spot for your family. However, whether you purchase a permanent one or a pool that you can fill only when you want to use it, you should consider the effects on your landscaping. Does this Spark an idea?
-
Grass
-
An aboveground pool will kill any grass underneath it, since many of these pools are large and designed to be permanent. However, there are smaller pools available that are inflatable and can be moved when drained. If you don't want a pool all the time and want to preserve your lawn, one of these may be a good choice.
Location
-
Before you choose an aboveground pool, consider where it should be in your yard. A sunny area is best to keep the water warm, but consider positioning the pool to one side of your yard if you're concerned about the grass. This will allow you to still have an expanse of grass along with the pool.

Warning
-
Before installing your pool, make sure to dig out all the grass and lay landscaping cloth over the entire pool area. Some types of grass can grow through the pool liner and destroy your pool. To prevent this, use landscaping cloth underneath the pool. Also, surround the pool with a deck or planter boxes.
