Human resource professionals in the health care industry have definite goals and objectives when developing hiring, training and retention plans. Health care organizations require specifically trained, certified and/or licensed providers, clinicians and other staff. Additionally, the industry's customers -- patients -- are tyically not thrilled to be in need of services.

  1. Hiring

    • The hiring process includes recruiting, interviewing and conducting background checks on potential job candidates. HR professionals collaborate with colleges and universities offering specifically required degrees and certifications during the recruitment process. When interviewing, check that the job candidate obtains state-specific licensure or certification. Health care organizations must conduct background checks on potential employees to verify degrees and criminal status.

    Training

    • Health care workers must retain up-to-date CPR and first aid certification, which usually takes place every two years. Certain licenses and certifications require continuing education credits for renewal. Typically, health care organizations provide these or reimburse employees for training and time away from work.

    Retention

    • Retaining skilled employees is cost-effective and improves the overall performance of the organization. Providing training programs in not only required areas, but also personal areas may increase retention rates. Generally, health care workers feel a calling into the field; therefore, employers benefit from leadership and interpersonal training programs that renew and sustain that original calling.
