Texas Flame parrot tulips are red and yellow.

Tulip bulbs prefer a deep chilling before they bloom in the spring months. The beautiful Texas Flame parrot tulip features a predominantly yellow petal with streaks of red. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Identification

    • Unlike other tulips, parrot tulips have fringed or scalloped edges that twist and curl. As the flower blooms and is exposed to the sun, it will open up so widely that the flower looks almost flat. Another distinguishing characteristic of parrot tulips is that they frequently have a green spot at the petal base.

    Size

    • Texas Flame parrot tulips frequently grow between 16 to 18 inches in height.

    Strength

    • Since parrot tulips are not as strong as other tulips, plant them in a protected spot to keep them away from severe weather. According to the Texas A&M Extension Service, parrot tulips generally have weaker stems than other tulip varieties, and may not bloom properly.
