How Good Is Liquid Cooling for a Quad Processor?

How Good Is Liquid Cooling for a Quad Processor? thumbnail
Liquid cooling methods are often superior to air cooling when it comes to protecting a CPU.

Most personal computers on the market feature air cooling for the CPU. However, some users prefer to employ a liquid cooling system rather than fan to cool a quad-core processor.

  1. Lower Temperatures

    • A quad-core processor may benefit from a liquid cooling system, as opposed to cooling with fans, because many liquid cooling systems are superior at reducing CPU temperature. The actual improvement in cooling that you can expect will depend on your computer and the liquid cooling system you choose. Lower temperatures for your CPU mean better performance and a longer processor life.

    Noise Reduction

    • In addition to lower temperatures, liquid cooling methods can reduce noise in a computer running a quad-core processor. This is because up to four fans can be eliminated, reducing both noise and power needed to run the cooling system.

    Danger of Leaks

    • One downside of water-cooled systems is that the cooling unit could fail and leak fluid, which could severely damage your computer. This risk can be minimized by having a liquid cooled system installed professionally. That being said, custom installs can be risky.
