How to Compare Defragment Programs
Whether or not you download many programs and applications to your computer, the computer's hard disk files can become fragmented over time. Windows operating systems come with a built-in defrag application that attempts to resolve this, but there are many programs available that may be a better fit for you.

Windows Disk Defragmenter is easy to access because it is already installed in Windows. All you have to do is right-click the disk volume, click "Properties" and select "Defragment Now" from the "Tools" tab.
Features
-
Other defragment programs will allow you to schedule defragment operations on a daily or weekly basis. With Windows Defrag, you get the basic operation, but with others, you can choose to defragment drives with less than one percent free space, select which files you want to defragment or perform a drive space analysis. However, these programs can be costly, whereas Windows is free.

Considerations
-
Selecting the right defragment program depends on your computer know-how and for what you use the computer. Some users opt to defragment certain files and folders, rather than the entire drive, or to defragment in the background while running programs; running Windows Defrag would slow down the operation of other programs drastically.
