What Is TS Audio Wire?
A TS audio cable is a kind of unbalanced, monaural audio cable, usually with a 1/4-inch--but sometimes 1/8-inch--connector. A TS audio cable with a 1/4-inch connector is commonly used for musical instruments and is sometimes called a "guitar cable."

Tip, Shield
-
The letters "TS" stand for "tip" and "shield." These are the two connection points on each end of a TS cable. The similarly named TRS (tip, ring and shield) cable has three connection points and can carry a stereo signal.
Unbalanced Signal
-
TS cables contain two wires: a positive wire carrying the audio signal and a ground. This "unbalanced" signal (as opposed to a balanced signal, carried over both positive and negative wires) is susceptible to hum and other noise over longer lengths of cable.

Uses
-
TS cables are commonly used for electric guitars and are used for most other electric instruments, such as keyboards, drum machines and bass guitars. Some microphone and speaker jacks are also set up for 1/4-inch TS connectors.
