Benefits
-
Since the exercise program was introduced, many have attempted to shorten the training periods, resulting in inferior exercise programs. This resulted in the formation of the Pilates Method Alliance, a nonprofit agency which works toward assisting teachers gain authentic Pilates training and certification.
With so many "copy cat" Pilates instructors in the workforce, certification through this alliance shows that a teacher underwent the proper training and has the experience necessary to instruct others in the Pilates methodology.
Requirements
-
The requirements for an individual to become Pilates certified are 450 hours in teachers training and 72 hours of employment in a Pilates position within the last 12 months. The 450 hours of training can include classroom instruction, self-study, internships or apprenticeships, and teaching time. An exam consisting of 150 multiple-choice questions must be taken and passed.
