Information on T5 Bulbs
Fluorescent light bulbs use chemical reactions inside of glass tubing to emit light. They are especially common in commercial environments. A T5 bulb is one type of fluorescent, and it is one of the most energy-efficient options. Does this Spark an idea?
-
Diameter
-
The term "T5" indicates the diameter of the glass tube itself. The numeral indicates eighths of an inch, so a T5 is 5/8 of an inch. Other common types of bulbs include T8 (1 inch), T12 (1 1/2 inches) and T16 (2 inches).
Length
-
Fluorescents can be many lengths, and sometimes are manufactured in a "U" shape rather rather than a straight tube. T5 bulbs can range from 6 inches to over 40 inches in length.
-
Pins
-
Many fluorescents insert into sockets with pins rather than with a screw-in base. The T5 uses miniature bi-pins, which are smaller and closer together than the pins for other types of fluorescent lights.
