What is a PCL Emulation Error?
Printers are a vital part of every company's network. Without printers, people could not create presentations to hand out at meetings or create documents to help improve productivity. Since technology has changed, people have run into problems with new software while trying to print to older printers. This is where a printer emulator helps out.

History
-
As printers have evolved over time, they have gotten away from the traditional style of printing. This can lead to problems if a user still needs to use older machines like dot-matrix printers to print out documents.
Function
-
The printer emulator was designed to help translate new material to the older printers so it could still print out what the user requested. The PCL or "Printer Control Language" is what takes the translated information from the emulator and sends it to the printer to process and print out.

Errors
-
As with any software there is always a chance of errors. A PCL emulation error is when part of the process of transferring the information to the emulator and then to the printer goes wrong. Usually these errors happen when software conditions change such as when an antivirus program runs a scan. The AV program thinks the emulator is a virus and will quarantine the file making it non-usable.
