Plumbing Design Certification
Certified in Plumbing Design is an accreditation issued by the American Society of Plumbing Engineers. Individuals who demonstrate their abilities in the field of plumbing engineering by successfully completing an examination receive the certificate.

To be eligible to take the CPD examination, an applicant must have a minimum of four years of practical experience in the design of plumbing systems and hold a degree in engineering. Alternatively, an additional four years of practical experience in the design of plumbing systems can be a substitute for a degree.

The CPD test consists of 100 multiple-choice questions covering job-related issues within the field of research, administration, design, specifications and construction. Applicants must be able to review water distribution, determine water pressure requirements, select piping insulation and figure out types and locations of underground systems and sub-structures.

Considerations

The ASPE offers the examination once a year during the third week in April. The exams are at 200 locations in the U.S. and last approximately one day. The registration fee for the Certified in Plumbing Design test ranges from $300 to $625 as of 2010, depending on the applicant's membership status with ASPE.
