CD Replication Vs. CD Duplication
When having multiple copies of a CD produced, you might need to decide between replicating or duplicating your CD. Replication is customary when a large number of CD copies are needed or when the copies must be compatible with every consumer CD player.
-
How Data is Copied to the CD
-
When a CD is duplicated by a CD burner, the data is burned into a dye layer within the disk. However, when a CD is replicated using professional equipment, the data is pressed onto the CD. Only replication results in an exact copy of the CD being created.
Cost Comparison
-
It is usually less expensive to replicate CDs than it is to duplicate them, as long as enough copies of the CD are being made. For small orders (less than 300), it may be less expensive to have the CD duplicated.
-
Compatibility Considerations
-
Replicated CDs are guaranteed to be compatible with every CD player, because they are an exact copy of the original CD. Duplicated CDs, on the other hand, may not be compatible with some CD players because the data is burned onto a writable disk and not all CD players can play burned CDs.
