How to Buy RDRAM Memory
RDRAM is also known as DRDRAM, or Direct Rambus Dynamic Random Access Memory. Intel, the primary proponent of RDRAM, began phasing out the memory in 2001. However, for those with computers that will run on no other type of memory, it is still possible to purchase RDRAM.
-
Configuration
-
Determine how many RDRAM slots your computer has, along with their maximum capacity and how many are currently filled. If you're computer does not have software that will display this information, third party software will be necessary.
Speed
-
Note the speed of the RDRAM modules installed on your computer. Memory speed ratings appear as a number following the letters "PC." Common RDRAM speeds include PC-600, PC-700, PC-800, and PC-1200.
-
Continuity
-
If visually examining your RDRAM modules, note that, unlike other forms of RAM, all RDRAM slots must be filled. For this reason, you may have "continuity modules" installed in some slots. These do not add any RAM, and are easily distinguishable from RDRAM in that they are flat plates with no circuitry.
Purchase
-
There are many vendors on line that sell RDRAM. A search for "RDRAM" or "Rambus DRAM" using any search engine will produce a list of such vendors. Select a trusted source and purchase RDRAM modules that are the right speed and capacity for you computer.
