How to Install a Ground Block for Coaxial Cable

How to Install a Ground Block for Coaxial Cable thumbnail
A coaxial cable from an antenna should have the shield grounded.

The center conductor of a coaxial cable carries an electronic signal from an antenna to a receiver. The shield of the cable protects the signal from noise and interference, but only if properly connected to ground.

  1. Install the Ground Block

    Connect Signal Cables

    • Connect cables from the antenna to one side of the ground block and cables to the receiver to the other side. The collar of the connector makes the connection to ground and the signal passes through the center of the connection.

    Connect the Block to Ground

    • Connect one end of a #10 copper or #8 aluminum wire to the screw connection of the ground block. The wire does not need to be insulated, but must be long enough to reach the central grounding point.

    Connect to Ground

    • Connect the other end of the grounding wire to the central building ground using appropriate hardware. If you don't have a good grounding point, consult an electrician.
