There are many types of Secure Digital (SD) cards. Figuring out the right term to use for a specific type of SD card can cause confusion. The microSD card is a newer version of these digital storage media.

A microSD card is a small flash storage device capable of storying up to 2 gigabytes of data.
Dimensions

The card measures 11 millimeters wide by 15 millimeters long by 1 millimeter thick, or approximately 7/16 of an inch wide by 9/16 of an inch long by 1/32 of an inch thick. It weighs approximately 0.5 grams, or close to 1/64 of an ounce.

Applications

One of the most common applications of microSD cars is in cell phones. In 2009, over 75 percent of cell phones had a microSD card reader. Estimates for 2010 indicate that over 80 percent of cell phones have them.
