What Does a Webinar Entail?
Webinars are convenient and easy Internet-based modes to put together seminars and presentations to a group of people on the World Wide Web.
-
Definition
-
A Webinar is a seminar conducted on the Web, a web seminar, that allows people to connect online to view live audio/video presentations and interact with each other.
Advantages
-
The most important advantage of a Webinar is convenience. Attendees do not need to travel. They can join the presentation from their work desk or the comfort of their home. Attendees do not have to dress in professional attire to attend such presentations and meetings. As there is no travel, attendees, and their employers can save time and money. Webinars help presenters and attendees save money as conducting a Webinar requires no location rentals or printed handouts.
-
Disadvantages
-
The potential negative difference between a physical presentation/seminar and a webinar is that there maybe some loss of interaction. This is simply because there is absolutely no eye contact. The presenter has no idea whether the attendees are engaged in his speech and attendees might find it difficult to focus. The level of synergy is lost and brainstorming is minimal.
Function
-
Webinars are conducted through Webinar service providers. Presenters purchase a license to use the services of the service provider. This may be a one-time fee or a monthly fee. Service providers help the presenter set the Webinar interface, invite attendees, sort out online registration and get follow-up or feedback from attendees. The service provider interface offers options such as 'share your screen' to keep track of attendees, share notes, share Web browser windows, presentations and videos. When a presenter signs up, he can send an email to invite the attendees. The attendees would receive a confirmation link on which they would be required to register. Following this, attendees receive a series of confirmation and reminder mails. These emails include instructions on how the attendees can join and participate in the Webinar.
