Contents
-
Each Carfax report contains the number of previous owners, the service records, a description of damages from any prior wrecks and the last reported odometer reading. Carfax also includes warranty and recall information, as well as any recent consumer and safety ratings. In addition, the report estimates the car's actual worth based on the vehicle's history.
Reliability
-
Carfax receives information from an extensive database, holding more than 6 billion records, to compile each report. The company uses state department of motor vehicles records, along with records from Canadian agencies, collision shops, insurance companies, car manufacturers and auction services.
-
Cost
-
The cost for a Carfax report is $34.99 as of November 2010. The fee includes the report as well as the Buyback Guarantee. Carfax will buy the car from any consumer who purchases a report and later finds that a major problem was absent in the original report. Restrictions apply regarding the use of the Carfax guarantee.
