Outlook Mail Recovery
Microsoft Outlook is a personal information manager that comes with Microsoft Office. It mainly functions as an email provider, though it also comes equipped with organizational tools such as a calendar. When Outlook emails are lost or deleted, steps can be taken to retrieve them.

Recovery Software
-
Software can be purchased to specifically search for and recover lost emails. These include Disc Doctors Outlook Mail Recovery and RecoverAll Pro. This software does a good job of recovering emails, folders and contact information. However, they often come up with more than necessary information, especially if someone is looking for only one or two accidentally deleted emails.
Other Methods
-
An unorthodox method of retrieving specific emails involves corrupting the computer's PST file, where email information is stored. This can be done by editing the file using a hex editor. There, lines seven to 13 should be deleted, thus corrupting the file. An Inbox Repair Tool can then be used to repair the PST file. When finished, permanently deleted messages should appear in the deleted folder, and can be searched for by date and title to find the missing email.

Considerations
-
Whether using a purchased piece of software, attempting to recover emails on your own or enlisting the help of a computer-savvy friend, it is important to back up your Outlook information before doing anything. While this may take some time, because files can be rather large, it will be a safety net to protect from losing files during the process, which is always a possibility when editing, manipulating or repairing software.
