False twist textured yarn is used to make items of clothing.

The false twist texturing method is a U.S.-patented textile process. The method uses machines that twist, heat-treat and untwist synthetic yarn to create a bulkier and softer finished product.

  1. Process

    • The false twist texturing method is one of the most common texturing techniques, thanks to its simplicity and speed compared to bi-component, mechanical and shrinkage texturing methods. False twist texturing machines work by twisting and causing friction on the yarn with a tool known as a "stick disk." The yarn is then heat-treated and untwisted, which causes it to expand and "fluff out."

    • This method is widely used in the textile industry, because the yarn is used to make mass-produced items of clothing.
