How Big Does the Pineapple Plant Grow?

A pineapple fruit's edible portions are either white or yellow.

Many outside variants can stunt or boost the growth of a pineapple plant. Under optimal conditions, pineapple plants can grow up to 5 feet tall.

Size

A healthy pineapple plant will normally grow to a height between 2 and 5 feet tall. Its long leaves stretch out from the center with a 3- to 6-foot diameter. Pineapple fruits can grow to a length of over 12 inches and can weigh over 10 lbs.

Geography

Pineapple plants will grow larger and will produce quality fruit when planted in warm tropical to subtropical areas. Indirect sunlight and soil containing nitrogen, magnesium and iron are ideal growing conditions for healthy pineapple plants.

Considerations

Pineapple plants do not tolerate freezing conditions. They have a good chance of survival if covered, but the worth of its fruit will likely suffer. Although pineapple plants are drought and wind tolerant, protect the plants when possible so adverse conditions do not affect its growth.
