A Guide to the Linksys RVS4000

The Linksys RVS4000 router is ideal for your home or small business. The RVS4000 is a 4-port gigabit security router equipped with VPN. The built-in 10/100/1000 Ethernet switching capability lets you connect as many PCs as you want with the use of additional hubs and switches.

  1. What Does VPN Do?

    • A virtual private network (VPN) allows a user to protect data once it has left the local area network. All the data moving outside of the network is protected as if it were still in the network, much like being behind a firewall.

    IP Modes Offered

    • The Linksys RVS4000 offers two IP modes. The first option is the IPv4 mode operating on the LAN and WAN. The second option is to use IPv4 over the Internet and IPv6 over the LAN.

    Accessing the Router's Web-based Utility

    • To access the web-based utility to configure the router, open your web browser and type the router default IP address 192.168.1.1 in the address bar. When prompted to do so, enter your user name and password. If you have not yet set your user name and password, the default user name and password will both be "admin."
