The Department of Veterans Affairs utilizes a medical records system, known as the Veterans Health Information Systems and Technology Architecture (Vista). Vista contains personal health information of all individuals who are treated at VA health care facilities.

Vista allows VA health facilities to offer a number of online treatment resources, including prescription refills, wellness reminders and online conversations with health care team members through My HealtheVet. In order to register for My HealtheVet, individuals must watch a brief orientation video, sign a release form and present photo identification at their VA health facility.

My HealtheVet allows registered patients to chat online with their doctors or other health care professionals concerning non-emergency health care questions, such as drug interactions or symptoms. My HealtheVet also allows patients to view test results or scheduled appointments.

My HealtheVet contains a detailed health profile for each registrant that includes blood pressure, weight and cholesterol data. The site also allows users to download their personal health information.
