Candidates for IPS specialists must hold prerequisite Cisco certification. Before you can qualify to take the examination for the Cisco IPS Specialist, you need to be certified as a Cisco certified network associate (CCNA) in security or a CCNA with securing network devices certification or hold any Cisco certified internetwork expert certification.
Training

IPS certification requires study and understanding of Cisco IPS sensors and protocols. Preparing for the Cisco IPS examination, you will need to train and study Cisco IPS sensors to fully understand all aspects of their deployment and use as well as how to install, arrange and tune them to their best advantage. Being able to use your knowledge and skills to deploy the IPS sensors to diminish network threats is essential. Cisco IPS training is offered through Cisco partners. Cisco offers online learning materials through its Learning Centers and study documents.

Cisco IPS Certification

IPS certification must be renewed every two years. Cisco IPS specialist certification is valid for two years after which time you will need to again take and pass the IPS certification examination or pass either the Cisco certified internetwork expert or the Cisco certified design expert certification examination.
