What Is Shop Products in Marketing?
There are several different categories that are used in marketing to describe a type of product. The main terms used are; convenience products, shopping or shop products, speciality goods and industrial products. There are also other sub-categories such as; emergency products and unsought products.

Shop Products

Shop products are products that people (consumers) buy on a less frequent basis. Examples of shop products would be; personal services, household appliances and furnishings, electronics and clothing. Consumers will take more time seeking these products as they are products that indicate a 'lifestyle' choice and denote their social group.
Meaning in Marketing

When marketing a shop product, more selection is required as to who distributes the product. The target market is smaller therefore consumers will concentrate on comparing different products in quality, price, suitability and style.

Marketing Mix

The marketing mix refers to areas of the decision making process that are used when a consumer makes a purchase. These are blended by the organization to try to sell a product. In terms of shopping products the marketing mix will be; the products are quite expensive, the product features, price, brand name and design are all important to the consumer, the product will be marketed in less retail outlets and the marketing will include advertising, personal selling and sales promotion.
