Cancellation Policies for Rental Cars

Cancellation Policies for Rental Cars thumbnail
Cancellation policies for rental cars depend on the company you have rented from.

When renting a car, the unexpected can happen and you'll have to cancel. Every major car rental company has a cancellation policy, though many times it varies by location. When filling out the reservation form, read the cancellation policy in order to avoid fees.

  1. Enterprise Rent-a-Car

    • When completing Enterprise's Secure Lodging Reservation Form, the cancellation policy will be written in red ink or a link will be provided to you. The policies vary from lodging to lodging, but the general guidelines are that you must cancel by 4 or 6 p.m. on the arrival date, or 24, 48, or 72 hours prior to your arrival. If you cancel before the deadline you generally will not be charged.

    Hertz

    • Hertz allows you to cancel a prepaid reservation by going online or calling the Internet help desk. There will be a full refund if the cancellation is made seven days prior to the arrival date, otherwise there will be fees.

    Budget

    • The cancellation policy for Budget depends on the kind of reservation you made; however, all cancellations can be made via the website. Usually you must cancel within 48 hours of the pick-up time.
