Electronics Industry Code of Conduct
The Electronics Industry Code of Conduct (EICC) is a document put out by the Electronics Industry Citizenship Coalition to improve working conditions and social responsibility throughout the electronics supply chain around the world.
-
Authority
-
The EICC governs any business that voluntarily adopts it, as well as all subcontractors and supply chains connected to that business. For purposes of the EICC, "electronics industry" is understood to mean original equipment manufacturers, original design manufacturers and electronic manufacturing service firms. Participants are encouraged to dedicate themselves to advancing their responsibility toward the environment and social justice.
Health, Safety and Labor
-
All workers for EICC-compliant businesses must have freely chosen their employment, and their wages, benefits and work hours must be compliant with federal and state laws. Child labor is not to be used. Working conditions must be safe and humane, with potable water, clean toilets and a reasonable emergency evacuation plan. Hazardous substances must be clearly identified.
-
Business Ethics
-
Business transactions must be conducted with the highest standards of integrity, with EICC-compliant businesses eschewing bribery or any other kind of unfair advantage. Any transfer of technology between businesses must be conducted with respect to intellectual property laws and confidentiality agreements.
