Offshore Survival Certificate Training

Offshore survival certificates are also known as basic offshore safety induction and emergency training (BOSIET) certificates. This certificate is recognized as a worldwide standard for the offshore oil and gas production industry, offered through the OPITO International organization.

  1. Offshore

    • Through BOSIET training, individuals gain an understanding of basic safety standards and emergency response procedures, according to the University of Louisiana Lafayette. BOSIET certificates are sought by individuals wishing to work on offshore oil and gas production installations. OPITO is the developer of standards throughout the world for oil- and gas-producing territories.

    Safety

    • Basic safety skills taught during BOSIET training include the identification of offshore hazards, alcohol and substance abuse policies, environmental awareness and offshore safety regulations. To successfully complete the training, which in 2010, costs about $1,020, candidates must identify or explain the safety induction skills, set out by OPITO.

    Skills

    • Survival skills required to complete the BOSIET training for certification includes helicopter safety, which teaches candidates the proper procedures for donning survival suits and the procedures required for surviving the capsize of an aircraft in water. Sea survival skills are also required, along with firefighting skills for offshore installations.
