The Concept of Security Officer Negligence
Businesses call on security companies to provide security officers to protect their property and provide a safe environment for employees and visitors. However, inadequately trained security officers could find businesses tangled in legal trouble.

Theories/Speculation
-
Security consultants contend the lack of federal oversight contributes to security negligence. An abundance of security companies also causes problems. Security expert witness J.R. Roberts said many companies are concerned with profit rather than producing qualified officers. He said, "There are more than three times as many private security guards (an estimated 1.25 million) as police officers in the United States. Projected earnings for the industry are expected to exceed $7 billion in the next year."
Effects
-
Bad hiring practices by in-house security companies, inadequate training of security officers and poor security officer supervision cause security officer negligence. As a result, personal injury or loss of property is more likely to occur.
-
Light Training, Supervision
-
In-house security companies generally provide training for potential officers. Training includes watching videos and little on-the-job application before officers are placed at a site. In many cases, there is little or no supervision of officers while on duty, especially officers who work overnight and weekend shifts.
