DIY Outdoor Halloween Decorations

Traditional jack-o-lanterns are a Halloween favorite.

Half the fun of Halloween time is decorating for the visit of ghouls and monster boys. The do-it-yourself outdoor decorations are put together with supplies found in the yard and home.

Natural Items

Make natural Halloween decorations from items in the garden and backyard. Scenes are created with cornstalk bunches, skeletal tree branches, hay bales, carved or painted pumpkins and gourds. Natural stones are set up for realistic tombstones.

Wooden Crafts

Crafters can cut out large plywood pieces to draw scary or cartoon-like scenes and monsters on them. Paint adds bright color and details to black cats, witches' cauldrons, ghost images, a life-size coffin and Happy Halloween signs.

Recycled Objects

Detailed milk jug skeletons, sheet ghosts, paper mache spiders, rag mummies and leaf-stuffed clothing scarecrows add to the decorated outdoor Halloween scene. DIY tombstones are fashioned from painted cardboard boxes. Graveyard residents can be partially buried mannequin bodies or doll cast offs.

Foam

A person with advanced crafting abilities will carve realistic tombstones, body parts, haunted house facade and animal replicas from blocks or sheets of foam.
