Pasadena, Texas Building Codes

Pasadena, Texas Building Codes thumbnail
In 2009, houses in Pasadena only cost about half of what they cost in the rest of Texas.

Pasadena Texas follows the 2006 International Building Code for commercial projects and multifamily residential projects. One and two-family houses are governed by the 2006 International Residential code. Copies of this code are available online or at the city secretary's office (see Resources).

  1. Fees

    • New residential and commercial construction, additions, alterations or repairs are assessed an application fee that's calculated at a rate of 20 cents per square foot of area enclosed by a roof. The minimum fee is $50. One site inspection is included.

    Roofs

    • A permit is required to replace a roof or repair more than 25 percent of an existing roof. Combustible roofing materials such as wood shingle or shake aren't allowed except for minor repairs to residential single-family homes that have already been built.

    Plan Review

    • Commercial and residential applicants have to present two sets of plans and specifications that include a boundary survey and information on other aspects of construction such as plumbing and electrical. A complete list of what's required can be found in Article III Sec. 9.60 of the building code.

    Exemptions

    • Residential storage buildings don't need a permit if they're 100 square feet or less in size. However, they must conform to regulations governing setback. A permit isn't required to level a house or to install siding that conforms to the International Energy Conservation Code.
