Kundalini, Chakras and the Endocrine System
-
Kundalini is a Sanskrit word meaning "coiled up" and symbolizes energy that without practice lies dormant. Kundalini yoga concentrates on activating this energy through the stimulation of the seven major chakras, or the centers of consciousness, beginning with the chakra at the base of the spine, working up, through dedicated practice eventually reaching the chakra at the cerebral cortex.
Kundalini and Melatonin
-
Kundalini yoga is said to stimulate the endocrine system -- specifically the pineal gland, a small endocrine gland that produces the serotonin derivative melatonin, a hormone that regulates sleep.
