Rim locks can increase off-road performance and tire valve lifespan.

Rim locks, also called bead locks, are metal clamps that are attached to a motorcycle's tire rims. They are valuable accessories that can increase a motorcycle's performance and durability.

  1. Protection

    • The valve stem is the link between the rims and the tires that keeps the air inside the tire. Without a rim lock to hold the tire in place, the rubber will start to slip off of the rim, and eventually damage the valve, leaving the bike with a flat tire..

    Performance

    • Off-road bikers prefer to have lower pressure in their tires, as lower-pressure tires have greater traction. Rim locks allow motorcycles to have lower pressure tires while keeping the valve stem safe.

    Installation

    • Motorcycle rim locks can be found at virtually any motorcycle accessory retailer, and are relatively easy to install (though they do require removal of the tire, and should be applied with caution).
