Satellite Internet: Video Download Problems thumbnail
Satellite Internet is popular with a lot of people unable to get standard high speed Internet.

Satellite Internet is popular today in homes that are unable to get wired high speed internet. But in some cases, the nature of satellite Internet causes issues with video streaming and downloading that relies on a constant connection.

  1. Function

    • Satellite Internet works the same way as satellite television does. The satellite dish on the house communicates with the satellite in orbit and receives information from it. It is also as fast compared to satellite television and has the same delays. This can also affect video downloading and streaming.

    Problems

    • Weather plays a big role in how well the satellite dish receives information. Rain and clouds can interfere with the signal and slow down Internet speeds. Streaming video is greatly affected since it requires a consistent connection. Any interference can reduce the quality of video, causing playback problems and multiple interruptions.

    Considerations

    • Satellite Internet has a faster download speed than upload speed. It takes longer than a wired cable/DSL connection to send information than to receive. This can affect video due to the time it takes for your computer to request information is extended on top of any interference.
