Why Won't Your Heating Blanket Get Hot?
Electric blankets are blankets with built-in thermal devices, designed to keep people warm while they sleep. They rely on electricity to produce heat, but occasionally these blankets malfunction and do not get hot. Does this Spark an idea?
-
Power
-
The most obvious cause for an electric blanket's failure to warm is a bad power source. If the power is out, or it's connected to a faulty electrical outlet, the blanket will not warm. Also, the blanket's wires and cords must be intact and in good condition. If these appear frayed, worn or loose, they could be causing the problem with the blanket.
Controls
-
Electric blankets have power controls that allow users to switch the heating device on and off. Check that the power control is switched to the "on" position. If the control is broken, the blanket may not become warm, even if it is plugged in.
-
Thermostat
-
An electric blanket has a built-in thermostat control. This control must also be functioning properly in order for the blanket to get hot. If the blanket does not become warm, it is possible the thermostat is either set too low or defective.
