Personal data can be overlaid on Google Maps using the Google Maps API.

Google Maps has many APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) that allow them to be embedded onto websites and applications using JavaScript, Flash and a host of other technologies while allowing users to overlay their own data on top of these maps.

  1. JavaScript API

    • The JavaScript API allows for the embedding of Google Maps on Web pages as well as on mobile devices. Version 3 of the API employs draggable directions and custom panoramas for maps.

    Flash API

    • The ActionScript API offers utilities for manipulating and adding content to maps as well as embedding Google Maps in Flash applications. Flash API allows for the embedding of interactive robust map applications on websites.

    Google Earth API

    • The Google Earth plug-in lets users embed Google Earth and 3D digital images onto Web pages. This API allows you to draw markers, lines and 3D models to build map applications.
