State of Georgia Fire & Building Codes
Georgia fire code is a combination of federal policy and the state's own amendments, which are both designed to prevent emergencies and ensure safety.
-
General Info
-
Like most U.S. states, Georgian law adheres to the International Fire Code, although, like many states, Georgia has supplied its own amendments, which are specific to state legislation. Oversight and enforcement of the fire code falls under the authority of the state's fire safety commissioner.
Precautions
-
All Georgian buildings falling under the code have to possess one working "portable" fire extinguisher. Requirements for sprinkler systems are introduced as the load-bearing weight and size of a structure increase. Different structures also entail various ceiling heights and sprinkler types depending on the use of the facility. Georgia's code also governs other standards and materials, such as transformers, space-heaters, elevators, helo-pads and fuel service installations.

Penalties
-
If fire policy is broken by a Georgian citizen, that person is deemed in violation of the state's official code. This includes failure to adequately repair or alter structures in accordance with the law as well as flagrant abuses of general requirements. Each day that a violation continues after it has been officially recognized constitutes a repeat of the initial violation. The related penalties are compounded accordingly.
