How Long Does a CISSP Certificate Last? thumbnail
Internet security is a growing profession.

If you want an Internet security career, getting Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) certified is a career-enhancing move. Once CISSP certified, you need to continue your education so you don't lose your certification.

  1. Description

    • Before you can take the CISSP certification test, you need to be working in the Internet security field for five years. After preparation and study, you can take the CISSP exam covering 10 domains such as access control, cryptography, and compliance. Once you pass the exam, another CISSP-certified individual must endorse you.

    Length

    • The CISSP certification is valid for three years. The certification is renewable by meeting continuing education requirements and paying dues to International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium (ISC2), the organization that maintains CISSP certifications.

    Continuing Education

    • According to ISC2, you must take 120 continuing professional education (CPE) credits every three years with a minimum of 20 per year. You can maintain your certification indefinitely by taking seminars, courses and attending conferences to earn CPE credits.
