Army HIPAA Certification

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act was instituted by Congress in 1996 in an effort to protect the health care privacy of patients. Army personnel can become certified HIPAA professionals or certified HIPAA security specialists though HIPAA training and credentialing programs.

  1. Purpose

    • Obtaining a HIPAA certification gives individuals the expertise to train others, manage HIPAA security systems and become proficient with the legalities and compliance rules outlined by the government. Army personnel with HIPAA certification can land compliance-based jobs and manage Army HIPAA security databases or projects.

    Components

    • To become HIPAA certified, individuals must go through extensive training and coursework. The components involved with HIPAA certification include but are not limited to information security, compliance solutions, risk analysis and project management. Trainees must learn how to apply HIPAA rules to various areas in the medical military field.

    Format

    • Army personnel can obtain their certifications over the Internet. Online certification programs allow students to go through the program at their own pace. Live certification classes are also available. Students will have to test out of their programs in order to obtain their certification status.
