How to Compare Mini Fridges

How to Compare Mini Fridges thumbnail
In a mini-fridge, storage space may not be an issue.

A mini-fridge is almost an essential part of any college dorm room. But not all mini-fridges are equal, and aspects like freezers, shelving and size should all be taken into consideration when buying one. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Freezer Compartments

    • Not all mini-fridges have freezers. Though it will allow you to keep frozen food, the freezer will also cut into your storage space. Some mini-fridges with freezers only have one door, while others have two like a full-sized refrigerator. A two-door mini-fridge with a freezer will usually store frozen food better than single-door models.

    Shelves

    • Most mini-fridges come with wire shelves. These are lightweight, but are also flimsy and difficult to clean. Solid shelves made of materials like glass are easier to clean and more durable.

    Storage Space

    • Two mini-fridges of the same size might not have the same amount of storage space. Adjustable shelves and storage shelves on the door can drastically change not only the amount of storage space a fridge has, but the size of items the fridge can store as well.

    Size

    • If you're using the mini-fridge for a dorm room, then you'll most likely have to move it twice every year, possibly up and down stairs. A lighter or smaller fridge may make that move much easier.
