Gender Discrimination
-
Many males say they've also been denied opportunities based on gender. Lawsuits involving gender discrimination happen all around the world. In 2001, six female Wal-Mart employees brought a lawsuit against the company, citing inequality regarding promotions and salary. In 2009, it was ruled that more than 2 million female Wal-Mart employees, current or former, could sue the firm for gender discrimination.
Religious and Racial Discrimination
-
A hijab refers to a religious headscarf linked to Muslim faith. Representatives of an 18-year old female of Muslim faith took clothing retailer Abercrombie & Fitch to court after she wore a hijab to work. The woman claimed she wore the hijab to the interview and was told that as long as the hijab represented the company colors, there wouldn't be a problem. Upon a visit from the store's district manager, the woman was then told her hijab went against the store's "look policy." The company has been accused of discrimination in the past, paying out $45 million to applicants who were rejected and affected by racial discrimination.

Age Discrimination
-
Equal Employment Commission reports 14,141 claims of age discrimination in 1999. A lawsuit regarding age discrimination was brought against Medford, Oregon, under allegations that the 2002 insurance changes within the city affected mostly older workers. The lawsuit resulted in the awarding of hundreds of thousands of dollars to city workers, as well as a ruling to make changes to the health coverage in Oregon regarding workers who have taken early retirement.
