Cheap Lifeguard Training

Cheap Lifeguard Training thumbnail
Lifeguard training involves instruction in both deep and shallow water rescue techniques.

Lifeguard training serves as an important contributor to assuring the safety of people engaged in water-based activities. Several organizations, such as the American Lifeguard Association, offer training programs at a reasonable cost.

  1. Scope

    • Lifeguard training involves instruction in the primary, secondary and tertiary methods of protection employed in the prevention of water-based accidents. For instance, a lifeguard must assess their area of supervision for potential hazards, provide warnings to those engaged in dangerous activities and supply treatment to individuals in distress. She must have formal training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation, epinephrine auto-injector administration, blood pathogenic training and general first aid.

    Requirements

    • According to the American Lifeguard Association, for an individual to receive certification as a shallow-water lifeguard she must swim a minimum of 50 yards. A shallow-water lifeguard also has the option of "walking the brick," which means she may walk through shallow water to reach the person in danger, if necessary. For deep-water lifeguard certification, she must swim continuously for 300 yards, as well as swim 20 yards while carrying a 10-pound weight on her person.

    Cost

    • Lifeguard training fees vary between training providers. However, as of November 2010, lifeguard training costs $295 through accredited training organizations.
