LCD Vs. Class LCD

LCD Vs. Class LCD thumbnail
Class LCD and LCD TV's offer high definition images.

LCD technology produces compact visual displays on equipment slimmer and lighter than cathode ray tube televisions. Both Class LCD screens and standard LCD screens give sharp resolution in a smaller space.

  1. LCD

    • LCD stands for liquid crystal display. The screen contains crystals in a state between solid and liquid, which are manipulated to produce the images seen on the monitor. LCD sets generally give the viewer a bright, sharp and consistent picture.

    "Class"

    • A TV's "Class" is an approximation of the size of the screen. For example, a 42 inch class LCD TV would be somewhere between 41.5 and 42.4 inches. Advertisers round to the nearest inch because it's easier to say "42 inch class" than "41.7 inches"

    Considerations

    • Ultimately the difference between a class LCD TV and an LCD TV is semantics. A 42-inch class TV could also be called a 41.7 inch TV and still be accurate, assuming the TV's actual viewing area is 41.7 inches.
