Convector heaters are the modern-day answer to energy hogging radiators of old. Further reduction of energy costs is possible by creative engineering of these heaters to create more heat while using less energy. Modern convector heaters are capable of reducing energy costs by at least half over older models.

Replacing Old Technology

Convector heaters are basically heat exchangers, heating surrounding air with a heating source enclosed within the unit. Efficient heaters use small amounts of water or steam as a heat source to replace kerosene or natural gas in old radiators. Convectors simply allow heated air to radiate into the surrounding area without exposing inhabitants to the heating source.

Improving on Technology

Safety features incorporated in these heaters contribute to their energy-saving characteristics. Overheat protection prevents heaters from thermal runaway by shutting down the unit automatically when reaching excessive heat levels. Units may be automatically shut off when a desired temperature is reached or reduced from high heat to low heat output when connected to a monitoring thermostat.

Overall Energy Reduction

Energy-saving heaters consume between 500 and 1,500 watts daily while others use up to 3,000 watts. Using efficient heaters significantly reduces energy costs, as each household uses 5,000 watts of electricity daily on average.
