How do I Configure a Linksys WAP?
A Linksys WAP is a type of wireless networking router developed for Cisco Systems. Wireless networking routers are used to transmit a network or high-speed Internet connection to devices with wireless Internet capabilities.
-
Access Router's IP Address
-
Once a router has been connected to a computer and wireless router, the first step in configuring the device is to access the router's IP address by typing "192.168.1.245" into a web browser. The user will then be transferred to a page where he will be prompted for a username and password. Use "username" for the username and "password" for the password. Once entered, the user will be able to configure his Linksys device.
Channel Number
-
The channel number is the number in which the router broadcasts the wireless signal. Other electrical devices may interfere with one or a number of the different channels, so it is recommended that the user test the different channels to see which transmits the strongest signal.
-
Encryption
-
One of the last main steps in configuring a Linksys router is to set up encryption on the device so other users cannot access the wireless connection or networked computers. Users can create either a WEP key or a WPA key to encrypt the device by clicking "Edit WEP settings" or "Edit WPA settings." Once clicked, the user will be able to enter in a password for accessing and encrypting the device.
