Business Visual Roadmap Planning

Business roadmaps are planning tools that allow companies to identify their objectives and strategies. Business executives are responsible for developing visual roadmaps and dispersing them company-wide so that all employees see exactly where the company is heading.

  1. Setting Objectives

    • According to Penn State College of Agricultural Sciences, employers develop visual roadmaps by first determining their companies' objectives. Objectives, or goals, must be measurable so that the organization has a way to track how close they are to obtaining them. The main objective is at the end of the roadmap. The steps in between the starting point and the end point are the strategies that the company will take to obtain their goal.

    Defining Strategies

    • Organizational strategies are what move the company in the direction of their goals. Strategies break down into action steps. For example, one business strategy might be to gain competitive advantage in their industry by lowering the prices of their products. The action steps are the activities that the company decides to perform in order to fulfill the strategy and come closer to the final objective.

    Milestones

    • Visual roadmaps often contain milestones that allow executives to visualize where they are in relation to their goals. Short term goals have markers at various months that executives analyze to determine if they are on track with where they should be by that point.
