Philodendron Flower Care
Biologically speaking, philodendrons are plants, not flowers. It is actually rare to see flowers on a philodendron plant that is grown indoors. Varieties that do produce flowers are mostly native to tropical habitats spanning form Mexico and on through Central and South America. Does this Spark an idea?

Genus Identification
-
Heinrich Wilhelm Schott, an Austrian botanist, is credited with identifying the taxonomy for Araceae (the biological name for philodendron) in the early 1800s. His work in Brazil included identification of culture and flowering.
Flowering Varieties
-
Of the hundreds of philodendron varieties, a few are recognized for their ability to produce flowers. Varieties include Philodendron anisotomum, sagittifolium, cannifolium, selloum and Wendland's philodendron. Flowers appear during the raining season in the tropics. Flowers blossom from a spike-like center called the spadix and resemble the shape of a Calla lily.

Propagation and Care
-
Philodendron thrives in moist and humid environments, given their tropical heritage. Soil should be kept evenly moist and allowed to dry out between watering. A liquid fertilizer feeding should be given in the spring and in the mid summer. Indoors or outdoors, philodendron should not be exposed to temperatures that fall below 60 degrees Fahrenheit.
