Panasonic FS Vs. FX

Panasonic Lumix has manufactured models in the DMC-FS and DMC-FX series for most of the past decade. Generally, the FS models are older, whereas the FX models are still being made and released. For the sake of a brief comparison, consider the FS25 model and the FX700 models.

  1. Lenses

    • The FS-series digital cameras, when first released, featured either Leica 29mm wide-angle (f/3.3) or Leica 33mm (f/2.8) lenses. Both lens models allow for low-light photography with their wide aperture ranges.

By comparison, the FX-series cameras feature a 21.5mm lens with an aperture range from f/2.2 - 11 to f5.9 -11. The zoom capabilities vary from model to model, with a maximum of 5x optical zoom and digital magnification.

    Shooting Modes and Settings

    • Both models of Lumix digital cameras allow for a wide range of shooting modes and settings. In particular, the FS series features a sensitivity range from ISO 100 up to ISO 6400 for high-speed shooting. The FX series has the same sensitivity range.

The exposure control modes in both models of camera are quite similar, with each model have about two dozen shooting modes to chose from.

    Image and Movie Quality

    • The slightly older FS series has a sensor of 12.1 megapixels, which takes photos with enough quality to be blown up to poster-sized prints. FS cameras shoot video at 30 frames per second with a maximum resolution of 848 x 480 pixels.

The FX-series cameras feature full high-definition. These cameras capture videos at 1920 x 1080 pixels, for 1080i and 720p output. The 14-megapixel sensor guarantees large-format prints with excellent reproduction quality.
